Please introduce yourself.

My name is Jannick Hillie. I have been working at Mondelēz since January 2019, having started right after graduating from university as part of the Junior Management Program in CS&L (Customer Service and Logistics) in our Bremen office. During that three-year program, I had the opportunity to experience various positions within our CS&L organization, which enabled me to gain a comprehensive understanding of our overall processes and build a broad knowledge base across the distinct functions from which I continue to benefit today.

How did you come to work in demand planning?

My undergraduate and postgraduate studies in economic sciences, including a semester abroad in Nice, France, laid the foundation for my career. Thanks to the experience I gained throughout my studies and while working in different industries, I soon realized that I would like to work in FMCG due to its fast-paced and agile working environment. After successfully applying for the Junior Management Program at Mondelēz, my first rotation was in Demand Planning & Fulfillment. I really enjoyed working in that position due to its agility, diverse environment, and ever-changing topics.

After finishing the program in 2021, I then had the chance take on an assignment within the Demand Planning Team for the Biscuits category. I spent the next years of my career working with different categories and brands as a Demand Planner, before moving to an IBP (Integrated Business Planning) Process Management role and after that to my current role as Demand Planning Manager for Austria and Switzerland, where I manage the entire portfolio for both countries alongside my team of Demand Planners.

You are now in the role of E2E (End-to-End) Fulfillment Lead Germany. Can you tell us more about your role?

In my new role as E2E Fulfillment Lead Germany, our responsibility is to orchestrate the journey of a product, ensuring seamless, efficient, and customer-centric supply chain operations. The topics and challenges we encounter in our day-to-day work vary every day, and it is incredibly exciting to work in such a dynamic environment. On top of that, teamwork is the foundation of our success, and our strong spirit of collaboration allows us to deliver operational excellence.

You have progressed from the Junior Management Program to a managerial role in six years. What has been key to your growth at Mondelēz?

I believe the key to growth is being open-minded, having the willingness to adapt to changing situations and environments, and possessing a continuous growth mindset. In my case, the Junior Management Program laid the foundation by building the technical or operational base. Understanding the basics and our processes enabled me to take ownership by moving from executing tasks to owning processes and taking over end-to-end responsibility. Visibility from the leadership team, as well as continuous communication with stakeholders, were other key drivers that enabled me to step into the leadership role, shifting my mindset from 'me' to 'we'.

You studied abroad in France and have worked across different industries (automotive, consulting, FMCG). How has that international and cross-industry experience influenced your approach to demand planning?

Having studied abroad and worked across different industries helped me gain different insights and perspectives. These insights and perspectives have shaped my approach to demand planning in several meaningful ways – especially in how I analyze data, adapt to change, and collaborate across diverse teams. Studying abroad on the one hand has taught me cultural adaptability by understanding local nuances and it helped me build a strong language and communication base.

Working in different industries on the other hand helped me by making me adaptable to change and diverse environments. Both experiences shaped not only the way I approach things, but also how I interconnect with diverse people and were a crucial step in my personal development.

How would you describe the team culture within demand planning at Mondelēz, and how does collaboration play a role in your day-to-day work?

The team culture within demand planning is typically collaborative, data-driven and characterized by cross-functional work with a strong emphasis on communication and adaptability. The role is as much about relationship-building as it is about number-crunching. Demand planners do not work in isolation; their success depends on aligning with multiple stakeholders across the whole organization.

On the one hand demand planners are highly involved in all project-related topics cross-functionally working together with Marketing and PCM (Product Change Management). Apart from that they are leading the monthly IBP cycle, where they are collaborating with Sales, Category Planning as well as Finance. And for the daily operational work they are also highly dependent on information coming and flowing within CS&L.
