The Finance Graduate Program at Mondelēz International has played a defining role in shaping Peter Creagh’s career, from his first rotations across finance functions to overseeing the Logistics cost P&L. Since joining in 2018, Peter has gained international work experience in Slovakia, completed his CIMA qualification and developed expertise across Manufacturing, Commercial and FP&A Finance. Today, he also supports early-career talent development as a functional sponsor. His journey reflects you make MDLZ, where individual voices and contributions help shape the business and drive collective success.

Tell us something about yourself and your journey at Mondelēz International.

After completing a degree in Economics, I joined Mondelēz in 2018 as part of the UK&I Finance Graduate Program. During the program, I rotated through three roles across Manufacturing, Commercial, and FP&A Finance, which included a year working in our Bratislava office. I also had the opportunity to complete my CIMA Accounting qualification, which I completed after three years.

Following the program, I consolidated my experiences over four years within our category finance team in London. This involved managing a multi-million-dollar end-to-end P&L and collaborating closely with our Sales and Marketing functions. During this time, I got involved in a number of exciting projects and major new product launches.

Most recently, I was promoted to lead our Logistics cost P&L, where I am responsible for a significant cost base and lead a team of three finance business partners. Throughout my time at the company, the breadth of opportunities has been central to getting me where I am today.

What attracted you to the company at the beginning of your career?

I will be honest, I love chocolate, and I am passionate about our brands. Finance is exciting, but finance with chocolate is even better! The longer I have been here, the more I have come to believe that our culture is key to enjoying my work. Mondelēz offers a great work culture with genuinely brilliant and collaborative people to work alongside.

What has been your proudest moment during your eight years with MDLZ?

I was lucky to have the opportunity to move to Slovakia for a year. It was a life-changing experience that stretched me in ways I still refer to during challenging times. It was one of my best life experiences, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who gets offered the opportunity.

You’re now also a functional sponsor for early careers; what does this role mean to you?

After benefiting significantly from the graduate program, I was eager to give back and lead the Finance program. I can apply my lessons and experiences to make the program even better for the graduates who join the business. I believe this is key to ensuring those who join are set up for success.

What advice would you give to your younger self on your first day at the company?

Say yes to stretch opportunities that are given to you and make sure you keep yourself flexible at an early stage in your career. These stretch opportunities are where you can push yourself and truly develop.

As previously being part of the Graduate program, what are your biggest takeaways/ learnings from the program that helped you where you are today?

There are a number of learnings which I took from the program. Most notably:

  1. No question is too basic. Always make the most of the expertise around you to support your understanding and development.
  2. Feedback is key. Take it in, learn from it, and use it to improve your performance.
  3. Be open and flexible early on. Refrain from saying "No" too many times.
  4. Engross yourself in the wider business. You may be in finance, but you need to understand the world of your business partners. Take the time to learn the key elements and deliverables of their roles. It will make you more empathetic and a better finance business partner.

Looking back at everything you have built here, in what ways do you feel you make MDLZ?

After being here eight years, I believe my voice matters and Mondelēz culture allows my voice to have an impact. Whether that is related to Finance topics or more broadly in the organization, I believe my voice carries and supports our collective success.
