Cocoa Life
Cocoa is a key ingredient for our chocolate, and key to our business. We are proud to be one of the world’s leading chocolate makers, and are determined to help make cocoa right through our global cocoa sustainability program: Cocoa Life.
Cocoa Life is Mondelēz International’s global cocoa sustainability program launched in 2012 to secure a supply of more sustainable cocoa from key cocoa-producing countries.
Through Cocoa Life’s integrated approach, we aim to help address the root causes of the complex challenges cocoa farmers and their communities face, including climate change, deforestation, gender inequality, poverty, and child labor. Cocoa Life takes action for people and landscapes by helping to grow more profitable cocoa businesses for farming communities, lift cocoa communities, and protect and restore forests through smart innovation and collaboration.
By 2025, we aim to source 100% cocoa volumes for MDLZ chocolate brands through the Cocoa Life program. Our goal is to further increase our cocoa volume scale and reach ~300,000 cocoa farmers by 2030, with a US$ 1 billion total investment (2012-2030).
With this investment and in partnership with others, Mondelēz International aims to catalyze ground-breaking sector collaboration to help address systemic environmental and human rights challenges, improve cocoa farmer livelihoods and reach our goals.
By 2030, we aim to:
- Helping to grow more profitable cocoa business for communities to help Increase number of farming households reaching a living income
- Helping to lift cocoa communities to help enhance child protection systems and improve access to quality education in Cocoa Life communities
- Helping to protect and restore forests to seek no deforestation on Cocoa Life farms
