We asked Lucy, our sales professional on some career defining moments, and here is what she has to say:

1.What are some positive challenges your job presents?

A positive challenge we face in Sales is building relationships with our retail partners when we are new to role. Ultimately, we are all trying to achieve the same thing and grow our sales, however some of our specific priorities will be different and as such, building trust is key to working together in the best way. This can be incredibly rewarding.

2.What is the most exciting project that you have worked on?

Being the Sales Lead on our Cadbury distinctive activation project was very exciting. I worked closely with one of our key grocery customers on launching a concept in store that we called ‘Wall of Names’, which as it says on the tin, is a wall of Cadbury gifting chocolate with names and messages on them. It was an amazing feeling going to see this in store and observing how much it grabbed the attention of customers.

3.How have you developed your career during your time with us? 

I joined Mondelēz International from another FMCG company in 2019 as a National Account Manager (NAM) on one of our biggest grocery customer accounts. I then had the opportunity to move across to lead a team of NAMs who look after a group of smaller accounts in 2020.

4.Can you give us an example of how you stepped outside your comfort-zone in this role?  

At Mondelēz International, we are encouraged to develop ourselves by asking ‘What would you do if you weren’t afraid?’ – this forms the basis of the stretch projects and training we get involved in, as well as shaping our career paths. For me, this has led to a cross-functional move which has put me completely outside of my comfort zone to learn a very new role. 

5.What is your biggest learning experience since working with us?

Becoming a people manager in 2020 was my biggest learning experience. It was something I was initially nervous about, but I found it gave me an added sense of purpose in role. This is now something I am passionate to continue in each role I do moving forward.

6.How would you describe the work culture at Mondelēz International and within your function? 

The culture here is positive, celebratory, and caring. I remember when I first joined, I couldn’t believe how many times my colleagues clapped each other’s achievements in meetings! It is the most supportive workplace I have been in, encouraging us to be ourselves and focus on our wellbeing.

7.What advice would you give someone that is looking to join us in the Sales function?

If you like chocolate and building relationships with others, go for it! In the application process my advice is to be yourself, let your personality show and try to enjoy it!
