Can you describe your role as a Sr. Supply Chain Excellence Manager at the Richmond, VA plant? What are your primary responsibilities and how do they contribute to the overall success of Mondelēz International?

In my current role, I lead the implementation of our Operational Excellence program, focusing on driving continuous improvement initiatives. I don't just apply Continuous Improvement tools; I empower our team members to develop their own skills, fostering a culture of self-sufficiency. By delivering training on improvement methodologies, I equip teams to effectively spearhead cycles of enhancement. Collaboration is key; I work closely with leadership to identify potential improvements, ensuring we validate the benefits post-implementation. Through external benchmarking and a commitment to disciplined execution, I guarantee quality and consistency.

Additionally, I actively participate in shaping our organizational strategy, partnering with Human Resources and plant leadership. As the go-to resource for developing our leaders' technical skills, I provide unwavering support and guide local teams toward achieving our collective goals.

How has your career evolved at Mondelēz International, and what are some of the key experiences that have shaped your professional growth?

Mondelēz truly embodies a global landscape. Coming from Brazil, a country markedly different from the U.S., I've faced unique challenges that have enriched my journey. Even after 15 years in Continuous Improvement, my role at Mondelēz continues to be invigorating. Each day here presents fresh learning opportunities, steeped in a diverse culture that demands appreciation and attention.

A pivotal moment for me was reading The Culture Map: Breaking Through the Invisible Boundaries of Global Business by Erin Meyer as part of my preparation for life in the U.S. It illuminated the intricate dimensions of cultural interaction and the need to adapt my approach based on the nationality of those I engage with. The different communication styles, hierarchical relationships, and methodological rigor between Americans and Brazilians are fascinating. This dynamic setting challenges me to exercise adaptability daily.

I firmly believe that the strategies I used successfully elsewhere must be tailored for this warm and diverse American audience.

What do you enjoy most about working at Mondelēz, and what aspects of the company culture resonate with you?

I am genuinely inspired by the openness and accessibility of North American leadership. The straightforward and direct communication style, coupled with the speed at which decisions are made, is invigorating. It’s truly captivating to look at North America Mondelēz’s 2030 vision and immediately grasp how my contributions will play a role in shaping the company’s future. This clarity deeply engages all of us, fueling our collective passion and commitment to our goals.

What is unique about working at the Richmond plant, and how does the plant environment contribute to your job satisfaction and the success of your team?

The people of the Richmond Bakery are among the most welcoming I have ever encountered. It's incredible to see core team members who have dedicated 40 or 50 years to our plant, sharing their stories and embodying the rich legacy of our site. Knowing that my efforts can help continue this legacy inspires me, as I envision a future filled with more individuals celebrating half a century with us. This perspective elevates our work, reinforcing the impact we have on the community through our contributions.

What opportunities for professional development and career advancement have you found at Mondelēz, particularly in the supply chain function?

For me, the opportunity to relocate to the U.S. represented not just a fantastic career breakthrough, but also an incredible opportunity for my family. My wife and son are experiencing unique prospects here as well. At Mondelēz, the avenues for exploration are plentiful, whether it’s through different positions or geographical opportunities. The organization truly values individual competency. Here, dreaming big is not just possible; it’s encouraged! Career development across various domains is there for the taking—it's all about ambition, planning, alignment with leadership, and pursuing your goals.
