The role:
The Central Sample Administration (CSA) department is responsible for the administration of all samples coming into RSC (Reading Science Centre), main RSSL’s site. This includes responsibility for the receipt of samples; creating projects in the LIMS system; allocating projects to the correct departments; assigning analytical tests based upon submitted client paperwork and quotations; subcontracting analytical work; inputing of results; returning samples to clients; electronic and physical disposal of samples as required; maintaining chain of custody for controlled substances and liaising with internal and external customers.
This role will be to ensure the day to day efficient administration of samples received at the RSSL and maintain a flexible approach to working practices to ensure the smooth running of the CSA laboratory.
Technical and Operational
1.To ensure samples are logged into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) in an accurate and timely manner
2. Ensure the efficient throughput of samples in CSA from receipt to laboratory
3. Contribute to other elements of CSA’s role including sample disposal, sub-contracting etc
4. Liaise with customers to ensure correct information is available, ensure customer satisfaction by acting as an interface with customers and deliver excellent customer service
5. To provide training and coaching to less experienced members of staff and new starters, as required
6. Ensure consistency, technical precision and compliance with methods of work and look to identify improvements
7. Develop good working relationships with RSC colleagues particularly in the laboratories and and customer services
8. Work as part of the CSA team to high standards of safety and quality
9. Collaborate with RSSL’s Operational Teams to ensure customer requirements are met in a timely manner
10. Able to work under pressure and adapt to meet an ever changing customer environment
Communication & Influence
Liaise with both internal and external customers where necessary to ensure that the information on LIMS is accurate and ensure customer satisfaction by representing RSSL in a professional manner at all times.
QEHS
1. Work to the highest standards of safety and quality by ensuring that appropriate COSHHs, risk assessments and SOPs are read before starting work.
2. Help maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment.
3. Understand and work to the requirements of GMP, UKAS or Home Office regulations as required .
4. Ensure training records are accurate.
Requirements for the role:
Educated to Degree / HNC level in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent relevant experience in a laboratory.
Excellent organizational skills, including time management and priority setting
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Informing to ensure manager and key partners are aware of progress, achievements and issues at appropriate points
Excellent inter-personal skills, with the ability to interact effectively by with customers and colleagues by telephone, written communication and face-to-face
Outgoing proactive approach, energy, drive, enthusiasm and the ability to motivate others
Team player, plus ability to work on own initiative
An organised approach, capable of working on several projects at any one time
Competency in the use of generic and specific software packages required for the role including MS Office applications and LIMS.
Practical laboratory experience and experience of working in a regulated environment is preferred but not required.
Please note that due to the nature of our industry you may handle hazardous samples (safety training will be provided).
