Cadbury Helps with Literacy in Africa

Empowering Children Through Stories In Their Own Language

Monday, August 23, 2021

Only 2% of books published in South Africa are in local African languages, yet 80% of the population speaks a language other than English or Afrikaans.

Our Cadbury Dairy Milk brand wants to change this, with a little bit of glass and a half goodness. All children should get the chance to fall in love with reading, and what better way to do this, than by creating enchanting stories written in their own language.

However, we need the generous intent of others to make it happen. By simply translating one word, you help co-author a library of African language children’s stories that will live on our website so anyone can download, read and enjoy the wonderful world of fairytales, fables and fantasy. This is just the start of our journey - to create, print, distribute and inspire with stories in all 11 South African languages which will enrich lives and hope to contribute towards raising the level of literacy in our country.
