Meet Philip from UK
Philip is a sales pro and a mental health ally
“I have been fortunate enough to work with some great people who have given me a chance and put their faith in me, stepping up to the next level.”

After studying History & German at Manchester University and having no idea what my career would look like, I eventually joined a Market Research & Data Analytics firm as I wanted to work with brands. After 6-years and still no solid career plans I moved to Mondelēz International in 2006 to join the Category Development team. I’ve remained in the category team ever since and now head up a team of 9 and play a lead role in our Impulse Sales Leadership Team.
I love being seen by our customers as an objective partner and being trusted by them to do the right thing for their sales. I also love being able to influence our plans internally and see how our innovation comes to life in-store.
There is a myth that you need to have breadth of experience rather than depth of experience and that unless you have had frontline Sales and Sales Revenue Planning experience then you can’t progress to a senior level.
I have been fortunate enough to work with some great people who have given me a chance and put their faith in me, stepping up to the next level.
But at the same time I have trusted myself to make the most of the opportunities I have had and challenged myself to step out of my comfort zone in talking and presenting (as an introvert this wasn’t easy). I’ve also made sure that through my preparation I always feel confident in what I’m talking about even if I’m not always the best at saying it.
I’ve also had some challenges in my life regarding confidence, mental health and anxiety that have built barriers for me. I’m really pleased that I have managed overcome those hurdles and am thriving in an environment where I feel valued. Over the pandemic, I have been inspired by our Mental Health Allies and the support network they offer has been invaluable in helping me when I’m down. I’ve also realized the role I can play in this helping others and have signed up as an Ally.
