The Papakura Stream is under threat. Most of this original habitat has been lost due to agriculture, industry and urban development including wetland draining. This has led to a massive reduction in forest cover and water quality, reducing habitats for native species and increasing the sediment and pollution entering the stream and making their way to the precious Manukau Harbour.

That is why we are undertaking a multi-year project with our partners Conservation Volunteers New Zealand, aimed at restoring and protecting this important waterway through the installation of fencing, planting native trees and shrubs, weed control, litter cleanup and community engagement. We’ll be using Future Posts fence posts, made out of soft plastics, to help illustrate the importance of collecting and recycling soft plastics.
